Learn the basics of woodturning while transforming raw pieces of wood into functional and beautiful turned bowls. Working on wood lathes, you will learn safe and efficient woodturning techniques along with proper turning tool usage. This class is for all levels and designed to develop basic woodturning skills. A materials fee is due at registration. Closed-toe shoes required.
Join us for an immersive weekend workshop to discover the exciting process of sand casting. You’ll learn how to create molds using specialized casting sand and transform molten metal into unique jewelry or small sculptural objects. Along the way, explore mold-making, metal pouring, finishing, and polishing techniques. Leave with completed cast pieces and a solid introduction to this ancient and versatile metalworking process. Learn the skills necessary to throw cylinders, cups, bowls, and more in this exciting introduction to the fundamentals of working on a potter’s wheel. You will be guided through the process of throwing, shaping, and trimming your pieces. Express your creative voice through basic surface decoration and glazing techniques. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty!
Explore illustrating with colored pencils and paint pens on different toned background paper. Learn different blending techniques and applications of the mediums so you can walk away with a small illustration.

Gain a great introduction to working with borosilicate glass and the torch. Melt and sculpt your very own stunning glass acorn by hand. Wear closed-toe shoes, natural fabrics (like cotton), and tie back long hair in the studio.

Learn the process of blowing and sculpting hot glass, and gain knowledge on the chemistry related to the process and color. Using templates and handbuilding techniques, create your own ceramic beer stein perfect for your favorite tall beverage. You will learn how to create slabs of clay by following a template and incorporate textures to the surfaces to make this interesting functional object! Once fired, pick up your stein at Thorn Alley Kitchen where the second half of the workshop will conclude with a demonstration and tasting with our bartender 1pm Sunday, Nov. 8. Ages 21 and over only. Please wear clothes you donāt mind getting dirty.
