GoggleWorks transforms lives through unique interactions with art.
September 2020 marked 15 years of GoggleWorks serving Berks and beyond. Instead of holding a large anniversary celebration, the coronavirus pandemic shifted plans and we are hunkered down, modifying programs around health restrictions, maintaining outreach and access to the arts, and launching initiatives to dive deeper into our community. And rather than raising money for capital needs, maintenance, or typical overhead, we have decided to focus on people.
The Emergency Fund will support key areas, which include:
-Direct support for art workers and teachers
-Cost-free programs that offer access to art and education
-Initiatives that increase opportunity, equity, and inclusion for people of color and marginalized groups
-Select relief from rental expenses for artists and arts organizations
-Relief for costs of direct expenses for pandemic response
I admit, this is a modest effort against the massive impact of the pandemic and economic environment. Your gift is a simple, yet beautiful brushstroke. A wider view shows the work on canvas: the incredible impact of the arts in our community. It’s even more important now.
Our leaders continue to work to broaden and deepen the deepen the impact of our programs:
*Since 2017, GoggleWorks launched or developed charitable programs like the After School Arts Program, which expanded in 2018 after having a waiting list in 2017; ArtsBridge which allows disabled individuals to create gallery-quality art by using virtual reality technology and which provides art therapy for orphans as well as teens struggling with depression and anxiety; and our scholarships, which mean we promise to turn nobody away from classes based on their financial resources.
* In the last three years, GoggleWorks launched substantive art programs like the Student Ambassador Fellowship, a merit-based mentorship program for high school artists; an international residency that hosted artists from Venezuela, Poland, Cuba, Iran, Georgia, and NYC; a print studio, allowing classes in 2D printmaking and screen printing; a virtual reality studio, a public studio model in our woodshop; a curated museum exhibition; branded seasonal programs like mini-makers and You Create We Make; and a monthly visiting artist program featuring nationally-renowned artists and craftspeople.
Leaders have also strived to make the organization more sustainable:
* GoggleWorks grew program revenue by 200% from 2016 to 2019; reduced debt by $200,000 and garnered a pledge for complete debt elimination over the next eight years); seven new major donors ($25,000 and above); twelve new foundation gifts amounting to over $400,000; a $260,000 endowment gift; and our first years of break-even operations!
