Spring II 2023 | April 10 - May 18th

The After School Arts Program (ASAP) offers students, ages 7-17, residing in the Reading School District and beyond, the opportunity to explore, experiment, and develop their creativity through hands-on, collaborative projects at no cost to their families. Taught by professional artists and educators, ASAP provides students with all of the knowledge and excitement of an after-school arts program wherever it’s most convenient to them. ASAP will offer one virtual class as well!

The Spring II Term of ASAP will be open for enrollment on Monday, February 20th at 4pm! Spring II term dates are from April 10th – May 18th.

 

We’ll be celebrating the culmination of the Spring I 2023 term with a Family Arts Night event on Thursday, March 16th from 5:30-7:00pm. Family and friends are welcome – parking and food will be free!

Ages 7-10

Monday: Dig in! Outdoor Gardening – Have you ever wanted to grow your own food? Let’s learn to investigate nature, grow food, and explore new culinary flavors directly in the garden. Inspire your green thumb in the new GoggleWorks Gardens at Lauer’s Park!

Tuesday: Intro to Jewelry – Learn how to make your own jewelry using various materials and knick-knacks, and then decorate your pieces to give them a personal touch!

Tuesday: Storytelling and Art [virtual] – Learn the process of creating stories with art including world-building, character development, and illustration. Students will use various media for art, including colored pencils, crayons, and markers.

Tuesday: Chess Club [ages 8-10] – Learn the art of chess with other students your age as you practice different strategies and play for fun!

Wednesday: Ceramics – This class covers the basics of clay hand-building and includes concepts such as coil building, slab rolling, and scoring and slipping. Pieces will be fired and glazed!

Wednesday: Mixed Media – This class covers the basics of clay hand-building and includes concepts such as coil building, slab rolling, and scoring and slipping.

Thursday: Intro to Painting – Learn the basics of painting as you explore acrylics on paper and canvas! Attempt various techniques of brush strokes, paint applications, and artistic perspective!

Ages 10 - 13

Monday: Digital Music – Learn the basics of music composition, beat progression, and instrumental overlay as you create music from scratch in the GW Recording Studio/Computer Lab! Students will work together to create 1 or 2 musical masterpieces throughout the term!

Wednesday: Digital Drawing [in-person] – Learn all of the skills of drawing in GoggleWorks Computer Lab! Take your drawing talents to a digital canvas where you’ll learn how to create on the screen using program tools to enhance drawings and make copies of your digital art!

Thursday: Intro to Acting – Come prepared to write, act, and improvise in this introduction to theatre skills class. Students will work together to create a skit that will be performed live at the culmination of the class!

Thursday: Animation – Bring your art to life by learning how to create animations using digital drawing and computer software! Work with our seasoned instructor as you learn how to make, stage, and edit your very own animation!

Ages 13 - 17

Monday: Virtual Reality [in-person] – Step into a new world as you create your own space in a 3D virtual reality. Students will create a virtual space accessible from the internet that includes personal VR artwork and audio.

Monday: Art with Heart – Do you like to collaborate and work towards transforming others’ lives with art? Try the GoggleWorks Art with Heart Club, and work with fellow teens with guidance from artists and the Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading as you develop and work towards making a collaboration project for the community. Art media varies.

Thursday: Animation – Bring your art to life by learning how to create animations using digital drawing and computer software! Work with our seasoned instructor as you learn how to make, stage, and edit your very own animation!

Thursday: Song-writing – Learn how to write your own music as you practice lyrics, song structuring, and composition in GoggleWorks Recording Studio!
