GoggleWorks’ Artist Studios, located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of our main building, are designed for emerging, mid-career, and established artists who are serious about pursuing their art in the professional setting of a community facility. Studio Artists make up a vital part of the GoggleWorks community. Together they create a hub of innovation and artistic excellence that highlights a broad and diverse range of artistic techniques, experiences, and perspectives.

  • 24/7 access to a private, light-filled studio space. Studio rents are subsidized on a sliding scale based on financial need. Spaces begin at  150 sq./ft.

  • Paid opportunities to teach classes and workshops at GoggleWorks.

  • Discounted access to GoggleWorks Maker Studios including the ceramics studio, wood shop, hot and warm glass shops, welding and precious metal shops, printmaking studio, darkroom, and textile studio as space allows.

Applying for a Studio

Criteria for Consideration

Artists interested in applying for a space should:

  • demonstrate a commitment to their career through a strong body of original work

  • have achieved a high degree of creative ability, technical facility, and professionalism

  • have nurtured an individual artistic vision and the ability to articulate it clearly in conversation and writing

  • share GoggleWorks’ commitment to creating greater access to art, culture, and educational programs

  • are committed to engaging with the Reading area community through open studios and public educational programming.

 

Application Process

  • To apply for a studio space a GoggleWorks:

    • Complete the Studio Artist Application Form through Submittable.

    • Submit with your application 10-15 pieces of representative work with a summary page listing the title, medium, dimensions, and year of completion for each work.

    • Submit an artist’s statement

    • Submit a CV or resume highlighting education, artistic accomplishments, exhibition history, and work experience.

    • Submit any additional support materials you believe are relevant (i.e. reviews, recommendations,  etc.)

Applications will be reviewed by a jury of GoggleWorks staff and be accepted on a rolling basis as studios become available. If no spaces are available, applicants will be added to a waitlist until being considered for the next available opening. Artists awarded studios are given 1-year lease that can be renewed each year until the end of their 3-year residency term. At the end of the 3-year residency terms, artists can reapply but will not be guaranteed a second term.
