Explore an experimental twist on tie-dye using SolarFast, a light sensitive dye, during this Maker Date. You and your loved one will learn how to fold, bind, and expose fabric to sunlight to create one-of-a-kind patterns that blend traditional tie-dye with photographic printing techniques while you enjoy beer, wine, and lite fare. Ditch the standard shutter and step into a world where time stands still. In this hands-on workshop during GoggleWorks’ Iron Pour + Fire Arts Festival, you will play with long exposure techniques and use photography in ways that aren’t possible at standard or high shutter speeds. Using a moving light source, like a flashlight, glow stick, or laser light pens, we’ll “paint” light onto a dark scene and create unique effects on your photographs.

Be introduced to the magic of analog photography! Using a GoggleWorks’ film camera, you’ll learn the fundamentals of shooting, developing, and printing in the darkroom. We’ll cover how to use the camera, process black & white film, and print using enlargers. Please bring your own photo paper (Ilford B&W); all other materials will be provided.

Dive into the darkroom and discover the creative possibilities of photographic printing! Over three weeks, you will explore the fundamentals of darkroom printing, play with double exposures to create layered, dreamlike images, and discover the dramatic effects of solarization. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced photographer, this workshop is a space to experiment and push the boundaries of traditional film photography. Please bring black and white negatives you’d like to print, along with any objects you’d like to experiment with (necklaces, keys, gloves, slinkies, hoops, light bulbs, or anything else that inspires you.) Feel free to get creative! All paper and chemicals will be provided.

Learn the fundamentals of one of the oldest photographic processes – wet plate collodion. In this full-day intensive, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the process, from pouring collodion to exposing, and developing your own plate, using both modern and antique 4×5 cameras. You’ll gain a deep, practical understanding of the materials and common challenges of the process while creating your own unique images. Whether you’re trying wet plate for the first time or looking to refine your technique, this workshop is designed for anyone interested in exploring alternative processes. All materials are provided. We recommend bringing a notebook, wearing clothes you don’t mind getting messy, and packing lunch/snacks for the day.
