In this multiweek class, learn how to use a bandsaw and belt sander for rough shaping, and then proceed to power carving to create the final sculpted form. Power carving is a more modern sculpting process where carving chisels have been replaced by handheld rotating grinders and cutters. The possibilities of shaping are endless and this class is a great introduction to the skill, along with making a charming duck to add some life to your home. A materials fee is due at registration. In this fun one-day family sewing workshop, you and your child will create your own classic sock monkey using simple sewing techniques and a bit of creativity. You’ll learn basic construction and finishing skills while making a unique handmade companion to take home and enjoy. Note: An adult must participate in the workshop. The tuition fee covers one individual, and you must register for each adult and child attending.
Take your drawing skills from the paper to the next level! Learn how to create an illustration using Procreate, one of the most intuitive programs on the iPad. From the basic functions of tools, to layouts and layers, go home with a small digital illustration.
Explore the art of welding with found objects in this one-day workshop. Start the class with a visit to a local scrap yard where you’ll learn how to identify weldable metals for your project. After a lunch break, you’ll learn how to use a MIG welder and hand tools to create your own found object sculpture. Be prepared to walk in an industrial setting; gloves and boots/work shoes are highly advised. Prerequisite: Welding Basics or equivalent experience.
Flame-resistant clothing, long pants, and heavy closed-toe shoes are required. Class will be held in the Welding Studio, Building 4.
