Either for the hustle and bustle of family to enjoy, or for you to simply grind some pepper onto your dinner, learn how to turn a peppermill and install the mechanism to make it operate! Discover design opportunities that can be applied to bowl turnings! Explore cutting and re-assembling finished bowls, layout and implementation of pyrography, texturing using both hand and power texturing tools, and finally coloring using a variety of techniques. Walk away with a better understanding of basic bowl turning as well as some creative avenues to pursue to enhance your turnings. Assemblages can also be explored in spindle turning techniques. Dan Zobel earned his associates degree in fine art from Bucks County Community College in 2009 under the tutelage of Mark Sfirri and subsequent Bachelor degree in 2012 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania under Alphonse Mattia. During the week, Dan puts his degree and experience to use as the woodshop operations manager at Edgewood Made in Philadelphia. Dan stays active in the wood art scene by participating in collaborative events, entering local shows, assisting in woodturning classes, and most recently becoming a committee member at the Museum for Art in Wood.
Art is a powerful, visual language for expressing what words often can’t. In this class, we’ll create three small paintings using bold color and intuition to explore and reflect on our emotions. No experience needed – just come ready to experiment and connect with your inner self.
Shared art materials will be provided in the studio for most classes. Personal supplies can be purchased at our Art Supply Store, located on the first floor of GoggleWorks.
Make a beautiful piece of jewelry from start to finish. The first class will explore lapidary: cutting, forming, and polishing raw rock into a shape of your choosing. The second class will cover silversmithing and mounting that stone in a silver frame, essential for adding it to a ring or necklace. This is a truly unique and diverse experience! As “urban sketchers” we will capture the passing scene in a busy and vibrant Thorn Alley Kitchen right in the heart of GoggleWorks, using a variety of water-based and dry sketch media. Please bring sketch materials, and a sturdy sketch journal containing watercolor paper or mixed media paper to class. Sketch materials can include pencils, pens, artist’s crayons, or small travel watercolor kits. Keep in mind this is an operating restaurant, and materials must be compact and neat.
Ring in the holiday season in our hot glass studio by crafting your own ornament or bell. Learn how to gather hot glass from the furnace, add color, and sculpt it into a holiday classic.

Jump into the world of jewelry design with silver precious metal clay! In this class you’ll learn to use molding tools and basic forming techniques to create a truly original piece. Once the design is complete, we’ll lay your project in one of our kilns to harden it into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry! A materials fee is due at registration. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Join us for a creative night on the wheel and transform a ball of clay into a unique piece of pottery handcrafted by you! Learn the basics of throwing on the wheel while you craft your work, then choose a glaze from our ceramic studio’s selection.
