Line-and-Berry is a traditional 18th-century inlay style unique to southeastern Pennsylvania. When William Penn opened his lands for settlement, Welsh immigrants introduced their vine-and-berry inlay, which evolved into the popular compass form. Primarily used on chests-of-drawers and valuable spice boxes, this style features straight lines and holly arcs arranged in geometric patterns, typically set into walnut backgrounds. This workshop offers an excellent introduction to inlay techniques applicable to styles from the Federal period to contemporary designs. We’ll cover materials, design, and both traditional and modern tools to create these charming inlays. A materials fee is due at registration.
