In this session, you will learn about Procion dyes in cool colors, and create a series of stitched samples to create patterns that echo the beauty of nature. We will explore mokume, ori-nui and variations, and karamatsu shibori. If you joined us for session A, those samples can be brought back to be overdyed. Despite the stunning detail of these patterns, each relies on the simplest of stitches, so no previous needlework experience is required. You’ll leave with a collection of samples as well as one finished piece suitable for wearing or gifting. We will discuss how these pieces can be used as the basis for other projects.
Learn the basics of sewing in this fun, hands-on course designed just for children ages 10-13 years old. You will practice using a sewing machine, read simple patterns, and complete a small project while building creative confidence.
Delve into the interplay of surface texture, impressions, and the balance of positive and negative space with etching. In this two-day workshop, you will explore the art of sashiko and boro stitching and learn these traditional Japanese techniques to create beautiful, functional coasters. From basic stitches to mindful patchwork, you’ll leave with two sashiko pieces and two boro pieces.
