Have you ever looked at a handquilted quilt and wondered “how it was done?” This traditional process is one that many quilters appreciate but have never learned how to achieve. This class will cover the basics of marking a quilt top as well as learning the stitching technique. Hand Quilting can be one of the most relaxing parts of the quilt making process! A small fabric/batting kit will be provided. A $35 fee for a handcrafted, wooden supported lap hoop is due at registration.
Felting is simple, creative, and cathartic work. In this class, we will explore basic needle felting techniques, while crafting a small wool bowl perfect for tiny treasures and trinkets. Skills learned can easily be applied to future felting projects.
In this lecture, we’ll explore how color and stitching can transform your quilting and sewing projects. We’ll break down how different colors and patterns interact and how your stitching choices can affect the final result. Join us to discover how to make confident choices for your next project!
Bring items that no longer work for you, whether they’re not your size or not your style, and work with a Fashion Designer to redesign them. Transform them yourself into items that fit your body and your personality! All sewing levels welcome.
Learn the basics of machine sewing to alter and make your own clothes! Learn everything you need to get started including setting up and tending to your machine, safe practices, stitches, using patterns, and more. At the end of this class, leave with a clothing item that is tailored to fit you from a pattern of your choice. Instructor is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Applique is a decorative sewing technique where fabric motifs are sewn to a larger fabric piece to form a picture or design. You can use these skills to create a quilt or even enhance a piece of clothing! The class will cover step-by-step fabric prep and various stitches for both hand and machine techniques. Classroom sewing machines will be used during class, but you are invited to bring your own. Please confirm your choice at registration. Basic supplies will be provided. Bring a packed lunch.
Come and create a small quilt using an African quilting technique which has been used for over 400 years. Kawandi quilts are created by hand-stitching scraps of fabric in a circular pattern that is approachable for all skill levels. Leave with a contemporary wall hanging, combining your personal aesthetic with this ancient craft.
