Exploring Shibori: Binding & Wrapping with Warm Colors

In this session, you will learn how to bind and wrap fabric to create four distinct shibori patterns: ne-maki, tazuna, te-kumo, and arashi. We will use Procion dyes in warm colors and you will leave with a collection of samples as well as one finished piece suitable for wearing or gifting. We will discuss how the samples can be used as the basis for other projects, or these pieces can be used in other shibori sessions for further experimentation. No previous experience needed! Be dressed to work with materials that can stain.
Impress your guests at your next party and serve snacks on your own handmade glass charcuterie board! Learn the basics of fusing techniques by cutting and shaping glass, then playing with color and design to create your very own essential serving display. Create a full serving set and join us for our Beaded Cheese and Knife Fork Set class (June 19). Closed-toe shoes required.

Jump into the world of jewelry design with silver precious metal clay! In this class, you’ll learn to use molding tools and basic forming techniques to create a truly original piece. Once the design is complete, we’ll lay your project in one of our kilns to harden it into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry! A materials fee is due at registration.
Build confidence in your technical skills and the ability to look at art critically in this one-week intensive covering the fundamentals of drawing. Using a variety of materials, learn elements of line, value, shape, form, and texture. Experiment with gesture drawing, contour lines, negative space, shading, and the intricacies of light, one point and two point perspective applied to interior spaces, urban spaces, and still life drawing. Please bring a packed lunch or order ahead from our restaurant, Thorn Alley Kitchen.

Take an evening to make a handmade honey dipper on a wood lathe to decorate or use in your kitchen. The main project is the honey dipper, which is a traditional way to serve honey from a jar. Add a little bit of fun and life to the project by adding a carved bee to the honey dipper when you are done! A materials fee is due at registration. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Make a beautiful and functional market basket, perfect for trips to the farmers market or harvesting from the garden. You will weave with flat and flat oval reed and finish your basket with an oak D-handle and dyed overlays for a classic look.
