Dive into woodturning fundamentals, learning how to properly make a fine furniture wooden side table. No corners will be cut, only the best, most beautiful and most traditional joinery will be used in its creation. The joint most central to this table is the classic mortisse and tenon. Learn the whys and hows to use this joint and level up your woodworking to a place where buying comparable is almost impossible in the disposable screw and glue era. A native of Reading, PA, Matt Brown spent over 25 years in the music industry, performing and teaching internationally. After deciding it was time for a change in 2017, his lifelong interest in woodworking grew serious enough that he decided to head back to school full time, enrolling in the cabinetmaking and wood technology program at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, PA.
He holds degrees from Mansfield University and Michigan State University. He has also studied at Boston University and the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University. Matt has over 30 years of teaching experience, having held positions at Florida Atlantic University, Lynn University, Michigan State University, Millersville University, Franklin and Marshall University, Montclair State University, and Kutztown University. Matt considers himself a life-long student, using every experience as a chance to learn.

Discover the basics of using acrylic paint pens. Learn the difference between brush tips versus bullet nibs, and the various stylistic choices you can make when using paint pens. Walk away with a small illustration and the knowledge of the medium.

Explore the art of welding with found objects in this one-day workshop. Start the class with a visit to a local scrap yard where you’ll learn how to identify weldable metals for your project. After a lunch break, you’ll learn how to use a MIG welder and hand tools to create your own found object sculpture. Be prepared to walk in an industrial setting; gloves and boots/work shoes are highly advised. Prerequisite: Welding Basics or equivalent experience.
Flame-resistant clothing, long pants, and heavy closed-toe shoes are required. Class will be held in the Welding Studio, Building 4.
