Learn the fundamentals of one of the oldest photographic processes – wet plate collodion. In this full-day intensive, you’ll be guided step-by-step through the process, from pouring collodion to exposing, and developing your own plate, using both modern and antique 4×5 cameras. You’ll gain a deep, practical understanding of the materials and common challenges of the process while creating your own unique images. Whether you’re trying wet plate for the first time or looking to refine your technique, this workshop is designed for anyone interested in exploring alternative processes. All materials are provided. We recommend bringing a notebook, wearing clothes you don’t mind getting messy, and packing lunch/snacks for the day.
Class will be held in the Darkroom, Studio 233, on the 2nd floor in GoggleWorks.
Learn to use composition and geometry to create stronger film photographs. Together, we’ll spend the first hour shooting on location, learning how to identify lines, shapes, patterns, and framing in everyday environments. The remainder of class will take place in the darkroom, Studio 233, on the 2nd floor in GoggleWorks, where you will develop your film and create a contact sheet to take home.
