Jump into the world of jewelry design with silver precious metal clay! In this class, you’ll learn to use molding tools and basic forming techniques to create a truly original piece. Once the design is complete, we’ll lay your project in one of our kilns to harden it into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry! A materials fee is due at registration.
Stylize your own tote! Choose from a collection of designs provided by GoggleWorks, and mix your preferred ink color to print your own tote bag. We will lead you through the screen printing and heat setting process to create a unique work of art you can take home and enjoy.
In this session, you will learn about Procion dyes in cool colors, and create a series of stitched samples to create patterns that echo the beauty of nature. We will explore mokume, ori-nui and variations, and karamatsu shibori. If you joined us for session A, those samples can be brought back to be overdyed. Despite the stunning detail of these patterns, each relies on the simplest of stitches, so no previous needlework experience is required. You’ll leave with a collection of samples as well as one finished piece suitable for wearing or gifting. We will discuss how these pieces can be used as the basis for other projects.
Explore the art of enameling through three distinct techniques: basic enameling, cloisonné, and plique-à-jour. During the first three sessions, you’ll learn each method step-by-step – from preparing your metal surface to applying and firing enamel for stunning color and texture effects. In the final two classes, you’ll have the creative freedom to design and complete your own finished piece, applying the skills and techniques you’ve developed. This immersive series is perfect for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of enamel artistry while creating truly one-of-a-kind jewelry. No class July 21.
Delve into the interplay of surface texture, impressions, and the balance of positive and negative space with etching. By pressing real-world items into etching grounds, you’ll discover how to translate the physical world into a visual language of traces and marks. By the end of the session, you will have gained the skills to safely prepare and etch a plate from start to finish and a few prints to take home.
Gain a great introduction to working with borosilicate glass and the torch. In this three-hour workshop, make a beautiful glass pendant by applying color to a clear rod of glass. Take it home and make a lovely necklace for yourself or gift it to someone you love. Wear closed-toe shoes, natural fabrics (like cotton), and tie back long hair in the studio.
In this two-day workshop, you will explore the art of sashiko and boro stitching and learn these traditional Japanese techniques to create beautiful, functional coasters. From basic stitches to mindful patchwork, you’ll leave with two sashiko pieces and two boro pieces.
