Nicki Stewart

Nicki Stewart is an accomplished textile artist, educator, and curator whose work boldly engages with themes of gender, ancestry, social structures, and the environment. By repurposing garments and textiles, she creates dynamic images that stitch together stories of connection, shared experiences, and trauma, encouraging viewers to interact with her pieces in meaningful and impactful ways.

Nicki is a proud graduate of the California Institute of the Arts (CalARTS). Her artistic journey commenced in the vibrant world of film and television starting in Los Angeles, and then in New Mexico. Nicki made the courageous decision to leave the film industry in 2021, dedicating herself entirely to her passion as a visual artist.

In recent years, Nicki’s work has gained recognition in several notable publications, including Quiltfolk New Mexico Issue 33, The New Mexico Field Guide, Northern Eclecta, and Tempo. She actively leads workshops on embroidery, block printing, and natural dyeing techniques, and has participated in exhibitions and taught workshops across the country, as well as engaging in both U.S. and international art residencies.
