Reading, PA (January 6, 2017) – GoggleWorks Center for the Arts comes alive during our new, recurring monthly event, Spotlight Night. Spotlight Nights will feature exhibition openings, artist talks, live demonstrations, open studios, participatory art activities, and more.

January’s Spotlight Night will feature:

In conjunction with the opening of Building Berks: Art in Architecture, architect Bruce Wood, FAIA, ASLA, LEED AP, CSI, principal of KMW Architecture, will give a talk in the Boscov Film Theatre starting at 5:30pm. The internationally renowned and award-winning firm is responsible for the design of several Berks County buildings, including the Miller Center for the Arts. An opening reception for Building Berks: Art in Architecture will be held in the Cohen Gallery immediately following the talk.

A retrospective of Berks County native and former GoggleWorks studio artist, Mary Stoudt will open with a reception in the Cohen Gallery from 5:30-7:30pm.

Into the Fold, a participatory installation of modular origami, kicks off in the lobby. Using paper as our material, GoggleWorks invites all ages to learn the art of origami and finish what the staff, board, and artists have started. Pick your favorite origami texture, fold, and install!

#GOGGLARC, a photographic exhibition by local students, opens on the second floor in the Schmidt Gallery. Meant to inspire creativity, the students were asked to consider architecture as an art form and examine the purpose of building through analog and digital photographic methods.

The evening will also include ongoing live demonstration in the Hot Glass Studio, in conjunction with Reading Fire & Ice Fest, free virtual reality experiences, and open studios on the second and third floors. Complimentary wine and beer, coffee, light refreshments and desserts will also be offered. All ages are welcome; admission and parking are always free.
