Souls Shot Portrait Project

April 28–May 28, 2023

Souls Shot Portrait Project pairs fine artists with families and friends of victims of gun violence. The artists meet with their families and friends to learn about who their loved ones were in life. Through photos, mementos, and stories as source material, the artists create portraits using diverse approaches and emphasize the individuality and uniqueness of the victims portrayed.

The mission of Souls Shot Portrait Project is to bring attention to and memorialize the lives lost and tragically altered due to gun violence. The experience of seeing the portraits is an invitational, rather than confrontational one, that creates empathy and connections with the souls represented. The goal is, through powerful and moving exhibitions of original portraits created by fine artists, to move viewers to take action in the quest for peace
