You’ll collaborate with experienced professionals, gain hands-on experience in planning and executing signature and community events, and play a key role in connecting our exhibitions, programs, and performances with the community we serve.

GoggleWorks Center for the Arts is a dynamic community arts hub in Reading, PA, dedicated to fostering creativity, education, and artistic expression. Our Signature Events team plays a vital role in bringing a piece of our offerings to the community through large and small scale events. 

About the Internship:

This internship is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community/signature event planning while learning the inner workings of a creative department at a leading art center. As a Signature Events Intern, you will shadow and collaborate with our Signature Events Manager, Marketing, Engagement, and Programs teams, to develop and execute premiere community events. 

What You Will Gain:

Hands-On Event Planning Experience: Work closely with the Signature Events Manager and cross-departmental teams to support the planning, coordination, and execution of GoggleWorks’ premiere signature and community events.

Behind-the-Scenes Arts Administration Insight: Gain firsthand exposure to how a large, community-focused arts organization operates, from event logistics and scheduling to vendor coordination and on-site execution.

Community Engagement & Outreach: Learn how arts organizations build meaningful connections with diverse audiences through inclusive, welcoming events that reflect the community they serve.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Marketing, Engagement, and Programs teams to align event goals with organizational messaging, programming, and audience experience.

Professional Development in a Creative Environment: Develop communication, organization, and problem-solving skills while working alongside experienced arts professionals in a fast-paced, creative setting.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and organizing signature and community events

  • Support event setup, execution, and breakdown

  • Work with the Signature Events Manager and other departments to support events

  • Help create welcoming, engaging experiences for visitors and community members

  • Complete basic administrative tasks such as schedules, checklists, and follow-ups

  • Share ideas and help solve problems as they arise during events

 

Who Should Apply?

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, dependable, and curious individual who’s excited to learn and jump into the world of community event planning in the arts. Ideal candidates should:

  • Be currently enrolled in a college or university program in arts administration, event planning, communications, or a related field

  • Bring a positive attitude and genuine excitement for working in a creative, community-focused environment

  • Be eager to learn, take feedback, and grow new skills

  • Be able to work independently on assigned tasks while knowing when to ask questions or seek guidance

  • Have strong communication and organizational skills

  • Be comfortable in a fast-paced setting where no two days are the same

  • Have an interest in arts, culture, and community engagement

 

Internship Duration & Schedule:

  • Flexible schedule (to be agreed upon with supervisor)
  • Internship duration: Summer (8-10 weeks) | at least 10 hours a week
      • Some nights and weekends
  • On-site at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts

  • Event Pitch Blurb
    Describe a community event they’d love to help produce at GoggleWorks (realistic or imaginative).

  • Day-in-the-Life Reflection
    A brief write-up imagining your first day as a Signature Events Intern and what you hope to contribute.

Visual & Multimedia Options

  • Short Video Introduction (1–2 minutes)
    A casual phone video sharing who you are, why you’re excited, and what you bring to the table.

  • Photo or Mood Board
    A simple collage that reflects your interest in arts, community, and events (can be made in Canva, Google Slides, etc.).

  • Mini Portfolio or Scrapbook
    A few pages showing relevant class projects, events you’ve helped with, or creative work—even informal experience counts.

Interactive & Experience-Based Options

  • Event Inspiration List
    A short list of 3–5 events you love (festivals, exhibitions, concerts, community gatherings) and why they work.

  • Problem-Solving Prompt
    How would you help make an event welcoming and engaging for first-time visitors?

  • Volunteer or Experience Snapshot
    A quick overview of past experiences (school, work, volunteering) that show responsibility and initiative—no formal letter required.

Lighthearted but Insightful Options

  • Three Things You Should Know About Me
    A short, personable response highlighting personality, work style, and interests.

  • “My Superpower” Prompt
    What skill or quality you’d bring to the events team and how you’d use it.

  • Playlist or Theme Board
    A small creative piece inspired by community, creativity, or gathering people together—with a short explanation.
