This retrospective exhibition offers an in-depth exploration of the life and work of Regina Gouger Miller, an acclaimed watercolorist, educator, and designer. A native of Ohio and long-time resident of Reading, Pennsylvania, Miller’s artistic career spans decades of dedication to capturing the beauty of the natural world through her unique technique of “negative painting.” Her work is widely recognized for its focus on florals and natural landscapes, blending precision with fluidity to evoke the quiet harmony found in nature. Her pieces have been featured in numerous juried exhibitions, reflecting the lasting appeal of her serene compositions and expert craftsmanship.
Miller’s educational background includes a B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.Ed. from Kutztown University. Throughout her career, she has studied under prominent watercolorists such as Rex Brandt and Frank Webb, refining her technique while developing her distinctive voice as an artist. In addition to creating art, she has been a passionate educator, teaching in public schools and at Reading Area Community College, while also offering private lessons in her home studio. Her leadership extended to serving as president of both the Berks Art Association and the Reading branch of the American Association of University Women, where she was named Outstanding Woman of the Year in 1983.
In 1984, Miller expanded her artistic practice by founding GINGER & SPICE, a needlework design company that transforms her watercolor paintings into intricate stitchable patterns. These designs, inspired by her artwork, have gained national and international recognition, selling across all 50 states. Her regional U.S. sampler series combines research with creative vision, celebrating the unique history, culture, and landscape of various areas.
This retrospective celebrates Miller’s lasting impact as both an artist and educator, showcasing her versatility across multiple media and her lifelong dedication to the arts.
