As creativity comes in a number of capacities, so do the many forms of art. As this exhibition is in conjunction with the celebration of music, it is interesting to see how melody can be visually transformed through artistic expression.

Music can be a catalyst for artmaking for a variety of reasons: relaxation, concentration or inspiration. It can be the spark to stimulate your artwork and the path it takes.

In the selection process, expression was one of the main contributing factors whether it was representational, abstract, two dimensional or three dimensional. Artwork with obvious content was not always the rationale for selection, as the creative process individual journey with diverse outcomes.

The works receiving award stood out by way of technique and unique interpretation of material and/or visual content. Color, texture and mark making were also deciding factors for award.

As any show, selection of awards is a difficult process. The work as a whole was impressive from diverse mediums, subject matter and approaches.

It was an honor to review this year’s 2019 “Art of Jazz Exhibition” and I wish to thank all of the artists for their participation.
