Try some experimental kiln casting with Visiting Artist Jacci Delaney! On day one, we’ll sculpt your positives using plasticine and fire them. Over the next few days, we’ll create molds in wax—perfect for capturing undercuts and complex shapes. You’ll learn lost wax casting, steam out your wax, and fire your molds.
Be ready to get messy with wax, plaster, and silica. Bring any small items you’d like to cast, along with any unusual tools you think could help with wax work—thinking creatively is encouraged!
We’ll also use alginate for quick mold impressions and pour wax into those. You’ll explore firing, annealing, and various types of glass in depth. You can sculpt freely, use found objects, or combine both to bring your ideas to life.
Students should bring: All the clay tools you have to work with, sketchbook and sketches of objects or the objects you would like to cast in glass. Please bring long dishwashing gloves, N95 respirator stored in Ziplock bag, plastic store bags, one-gallon Ziplock, and sandwich Ziplock bags, safety glasses/goggles, plastic apron, Sharpie marker, change of clothes, Vaseline and any other unusual tools that you can use to work the clay
