Use jewelry basics to handcraft a pendant from a silver quarter! Pre-1965 US silver quarters are a high content 90% silver (sterling silver is 92.5%). Rolled flat in a rolling mill the textured edge is evidence that the origins of the new silver blank came from a coin. Once the design is established, a drill and jewelry saw will be used to cut out desired spaces in the design. Upon the completion of cutting, the metal will be buffed to a high luster and a sterling silver jump ring will be attached allowing the piece to hang on a necklace. Yes…. you can alter an American coin but it can never be used as currency.
