Reading Sister Cities Exhibit

Artists from GoggleWorks Center for the Arts are participating in an art exchange with artists from Reutlingen, Reading´s German "sister city." Reutlingen is the most recently developed city in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The rich cultural scene in Reutlingen draws visitors from the entire region to experience its many museums and other art venues.

Artwork by German artists will be on display as a "clothesline exhibit" in GoggleWorks´ Schmidt Gallery from September 1-28, 2010. Works by GoggleWorks artists have been on exhibit in the gallery at the Produzentengalerie Pupille in Reutlingen during August and will move to Reutlingen´s Town Hall for display throughout September.

Artwork by artists from both countries was created on pieces of paper (8.5"x11" by the American artists and on the European equivalent size of 8.27" x 11.69" paper by the German artists) that could easily be mailed across the Atlantic. The pieces of paper are hung on a line, hence the "clothesline exhibit" concept.

GoggleWorks artists who participated in the exchange are Susan Biebuyck, W. Eugene Burkhart, Jr., Janna Carrozza, Alan Cernak, Lily Cernak, Mary Lou Creyts, April D´Angelo, Raylene De Vine, Suzanna Fellows, Sandi De Franco-Giannini, Sarah Gershbach, Daniel Gorman, Rich Houck, Diane Kennedy, Judy Lupas, Fran Parzanese, Heidi Reuter, Mary Stoudt, Barbara Thun, Adrienne Trafford and Pam Ullman.

This is the first artwork exchange between GoggleWorks and Reutlingen artists. The relationship between Reading and Reutlingen has grown during the past few years and has included student exchange programs. Reutlingen students have participated in workshops and tours at GoggleWorks.
